Eve Wangui Gichuhi

As her portfolio demonstrates, Eve has not only art directed various projects, she is also an editorial designer and an illustrator who works across both digital and analogue mediums. She enjoys traditional animation and writing the occasional academic text. Her work is inspired by the aesthetic expression of heritage, community, alienation, and how these inform global pop cultures.
An alumni of the Art University of Kassel, her work has been published inter alia by NUMÉRO BERLIN The Love Issue (2022), Dazed Magazine London (2020); Mr Big office / Medialisierungen Afrikas / Politics and Society in Africa Series: Bayreuther Studien zu Politik und Gesellschaft in Afrika | vol. 4 / Nomos (2017) ; Pop’Africana Magazine NY (2008, 2014); Chimurenga PMS Reader, South Africa (2012), CAPOSUD magazine, Italy (2009).
Additionally, she has participated in various self publishing Zine festivals for example; Somerset house London:Process!(2018); First Bubblegum Club Zine Exhibition Johannesburg, South Africa (2018); Printed Matter, Inc. THE NY ART BOOK FAIR with Ropepress publishing / MoMA PS1, Queens New York (2018); The Millionaires Club Leipzig (2016); Angoulême Festival Independent Comic Festival F.O.FF. (2015) and also International Comic Salon Erlangen (2008). She has exhibited at Examensaustellung documenta-halle Kassel (2014), Mash up the archive IWALEWA Haus Bayreuth (2013 & 2015) to name a few.
She has previously worked as a Lecturer at the Art University of Kassel in interdisciplinary projects relating to diaspora pop culture and aesthetic trends.
In 2017 she was honoured to participate in the acclaimed world famous Kassel documenta within the context of The documenta 14 Parliament of Bodies.
In 2020, she was also a part of the Berlin's Senate Department for Culture and Europe highly competitive Special Scholarship program.
